Your swimming pool is your private retreat, and your place to make memories with family and friends.
As we are spending more time in our backyards, some of you may be thinking about remodeling your pool. This is the perfect time to assess your pool. There are many beautiful options and one worth considering is tile. Installing tile can be an attractive way to add detail to your pool design. They can be used as a border just above the water line, you can install them to make designs on the floor such as fish, an emblem or more whimsical item, or you can tile the entire walls and floor of your pool . You may choose to go with a simple statement or a more intricate design…the world is your oyster. You decide what will work for you.
Whatever your choice, choosing the right tile is essential. Not all ceramic tiles can be installed in pools. If there are any cracks in the materials, it can allow moisture to penetrate. The recommended tile types are impervious or vitreous tiles. These two types will absorb only 0.5 or 3% respectively, of any moisture.
The pool must be prepped for tile. The walls and floor must be pressure cleaned to remove dirt and chemicals. This will provide a better surface for the tile to adhere or bond. Any holes or cracks should be patched and then a waterproofing layer will add an extra level of protection for the tiles. Once the waterproofing has cured, you are ready for tile installation. The tile can be installed as you would any tile.
There are many beautiful tile options. If you decide that tiling your pool is the way to go, please share your thoughts and pictures once you’ve completed the transformation.
Looking forward to seeing some gorgeous pools!
